PRIME Minister Julia Gillard is remaining tight-lipped on whether there will be a revised price for carbon in 2015-16 and revised revenue forecasts in the upcoming budget.
There are fears the federal budget could be facing a multi-billion dollar black hole in the wake of Europe's carbon price plummet this week, to $3 a tonne.
Australia's fixed price on carbon emissions is due to rise to $24.15 in July this year and $25.40 in 2014, before the price is set by the market in 2015.
Treasury modelling had been relying on a European carbon price of $29 in 2015.
"The budget forecasts in carbon and in all other areas will be updated in the usual way - at budget time," Ms Gillard told ABC TV.
Asked if the federal government was considering tweaking the current carbon price legislation, Ms Gillard said: "The legislation is there; the system has been outlined for all to see."
"The legislation is done and you know how hard that was to get through the Australian parliament."
